About Us
Strategy Website Design started over 10 years ago.
Back then, it wasn't called Strategy. It was just one guy (me)
with no budget trying to advertise my business for free.
Because of this need, it wasn't long before I had my first website. Unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem because the site wasn't attracting any visitors. This lack of traffic created the need for me to understand search engine optimization and how to get this site ranked higher.
You Need Your Site To Bo Optimized for Search Engines
Over the next few years, I tested and tried everything. Even though search engines are nothing like they were back then it was still a challenge to get the site to move up in the rankings.
It was this experimentation that gave me a firm understanding of how to optimize websites so they get found in the search engines.
What Is Your Goal?
Now optimization in only one factor in website design. You have to also understand the goal or strategy behind the site. Basically, you have to understand what you want to happen by having a website.
Do you want to get more traffic to your store?
Do you want to sell a product online?
Do you just need an online brochure type site to inform your clients?
Like I said, you have to understand the goal and develop a plan to accomplish that goal. Once you have a plan then you can set out to implement it by designing the site properly.
Don't Make This Mistake
Here's a story of what happened to me a long time ago. Hopefully, this will drive home the point of having a strategy and developing your website around it.
A long time ago I had a partner in another business. We were promoting a book. We were going to do this by buying some TV spots and drive people to our website. Our thought was to design a cool Flash website to sell the product. So we spent $25,000 on the website. Boy, did it look cool.
As cool as it was, we had very few sales. So it turned out to be a big waste of money. This is because it wasn't designed to sell the product. It was basically a brochure type site that did not have a plan to convert the visitor into a sale.
After we recognized that this site wasn't converting, we had the whole site re-designed. We went with more of a salesletter type site that was specifically designed to make people buy the book. This approach turned out to be the way to go because to date, we have sold over 10,000 copies of a $60 book.
The moral of the story here is you can have the coolest looking site in the world but if it is not designed around your goal, or you don't have a strategy to convert visitors into buyers, you really are just throwing money away.
Now, don't get me wrong. You don't want a cheap looking site either. You want a balance between the two. You want great graphics to get the visitor to stay on the page money than 5 seconds. Once you have their attention, you then lead them wherever you want through things like video, sales copy, opt-in or other images. As you create this site, you then track your visitors actions and split-test your site with other designs to find out what converts the best. This is time consuming but it really is worth it in the long run.
Conclusion
If you're looking to have your website re-designed or you are planning to design a new website don't just hire anyone. Find out what how they are going to achieve your goal. Remember, it's not about them it's about you and your goals. If you can't get someone to achieve this, you really are throwing money away.
